Language
Considerations
Whether you are learning a language, an advanced speaker, or prefer courses in English, ISEP has an option for you. Students with lower language skills may need to be flexible in destinations.
Programs taught in English allow you to choose from a wide range of courses at over 70 universities in 24 countries. In non-English speaking countries many local students take courses taught in English, so you will still feel a part of local university life even if you don’t speak the language. Host language courses at various levels are often available as well.
Language and Culture Programs are available for students who have some
prior coursework in the host language. This option is available
at many sites including Brazil, Chile, France, Germany, Japan, Switzerland,
and Spain. Summer options in some countries are also available.
Immersion in the host university is available if you are fluent
or have taken two or more years of college-level courses in the language.
You should feel comfortable participating in regular courses with local
students. Many sites also offer intensive language programs (“pre-sessions”)
before the semester begins or supplemental courses during the academic
year to help you adjust. Read the Language section in the site’s
Directory for complete information.
