A typical program includes 20 hours per week of small-group instruction, at 4 different levels from beginner to advanced, and three workshops on aspects of local life (140 total hours of instruction, including lab; usually 5 – 6 US credits, depending on the home university’s transfer policy). Most afternoons include a comprehensive range of organized sport or leisure activities. Sample syllabi can be found here

HOUSING AND MEALS
Students stay in single rooms in double apartments in a modern residence in downtown Chambéry. Meals are not included, but there is a kitchen in each apartment.
Trips and visits included in the program fee generally cover a welcome tour of Chambéry and Savoie, an excursion to Chamonix (Mont Blanc and its glaciers), and a farewell dinner cruise on nearby Lake Le Bourget.
Additionally, courses are organized so that students can participate in a number of complementary excursions organized by the ISEFE to sites such as Geneva, Turin, Lyon, Grenoble, and Paris for a minimal price. Activities are organized most afternoons either for free or a small fee and may include hiking, canoeing, canyoning, bicycle trips through vineyards, museums, mountain biking, swimming at the nearby lakes, and sports.
The ISEFE is a fully-accredited institute at the Université de Savoie specialized in teaching French as a foreign language to students from non-Francophone countries. The Université de Savoie is a medium-sized university (12,000 students) with three campuses and great facilities.
Chambéry is located at the edge of the Alps and offers easy access to Geneva and Lyon airports, great travel opportunities to nearby Switzerland and Italy, and fabulous mountain views. It is about three hours from Paris and the Mediterranean coast. More locally Chambéry is only a few minutes by bus from France's largest natural lake and less than an hour from the charms of Alpine villages and the splendors of high mountains. It combines the atmosphere of its colorful historic streets and cafes with the vibrancy of a modern go-ahead economy.
