SUMMER SNAPSHOT
Explore the Valparaíso region of Chile this summer and take advantage of beautiful weather, stunning beaches, and the magnificent mountains of Cordillera de Los Andes. This six-week Spanish Language and Chilean Culture program combines intensive language study with an overview of national literature and modern social and political Chilean issues. It includes two one-day excursions: to the Cabalgata Dunas de Ritoque as well as to the capital city of Santiago..

PROGRAM TYPE
ISEP-Direct Summer for all ISEP member students 
COURSES
Advanced students take two of the following four courses: Spanish Grammar, Spanish Conversation and Chilean Culture, Contemporary Chilean Literature, and Sociopolitical History of Chile--20th & 21st Centuries. Intermediate and beginning students take Spanish Grammar and Conversation, and Chilean Culture. Students receive a total of 120 contact hours for the program.

SPECIAL ACADEMIC CONDITIONS
Minimum prerequisite: Sophomore-level status.
LANGUAGE NOTES
Eligibility for Advanced Students: 4 – 5 semesters of college-level Spanish or the equivalent.
Eligibility for Intermediate Students: 3 – 4 semesters of college-level Spanish or the equivalent.
Eligibility for Beginning Students: 0-1 semesters of college-level Spanish or the equivalent.
Students should have some previous contact with the language (ex: high school Spanish)
Note: The host institution ultimately determines proficiency level and course eligibility.

PROFILE
The Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (PUCV), founded in 1928, has established itself as one of the most prestigious traditional higher educational institutions in Chile. The student body numbers over 14,000. Facilities include a modern library system, sports centers, specialized laboratories, and recreational centers. PUCV also runs a television channel, radio station, and film storehouse.
LOCATION
The university comprises different campuses and university centers located in the main cities of the Valparaíso region. The region is known for its beautiful weather, wonderful beaches, and the splendid Cordillera de Los Andes. With a population of more than one million, a unique multicultural flavor is present throughout this main commercial harbor of Chile. Seventy miles from Santiago—the capital city of Chile—Valparaíso’s visitors are sure to be fascinated by its history, geography, and architecture.
