Spanish Language and Culture Program
The Almería province, which receives the most sunshine and least rainfall in all of Europe, has beautiful beaches, natural parks, and an array of interesting villages to visit. Students can improve their Spanish through a combination of classroom instruction and excursions throughout southern Spain that include trips to the Alhambra in Granada, Cabo de Gata Natural Park, and historic and cultural landmarks throughout Almería. In addition to daily classes, these trips count toward students' total credit hours.

Summer Course Descriptions (in Spanish)
ISEP-Direct Summer for all ISEP member students
Students will receive three hours of instruction, five days a week, and will participate in practical lessons outside the classroom for a total of 120 instructional hours and 12 ECTS credits.
Students will be required to enroll in two mandatory courses: Spanish Language and Spanish Oral and Written Skills. Students will also be able enroll in one of the following elective courses: Spanish Literature, Spanish Society and Reality, and Spanish History and Culture. Please note that students should be at the intermediate/advanced level to take the Spanish Literature elective.

a. Spanish History and Culture
A minimum of two semesters of university-level Spanish or the equivalent must be completed prior to the program. Students may also be considered if they have completed three years of high school Spanish.
The program will be offered at three different levels of language instruction: basic, intermediate, and advanced. Students will be placed in the appropriate level after completing a language assessment on site. Note: The host institution ultimately determines your proficiency level and course eligibility.

HOUSING AND MEALS
Housing and Meals will be provided by a local host family in Almeria.
Students will be picked up at the airport on the official arrival day. They will also be taken to the airport on their day of departure.
Students will participate in excursions as a part of the curriculum. All costs related to excursions are included in the ISEP-Direct fee. Excursions include the Alhambra—a UNESCO World Heritage Site—in Granada, the Cabo de Gata Natural Park, the Alcazaba, Spanish Civil War Refuges, and the Cathedral.
The University of Almería is a public university established in 1993. Currently, it enrolls about 14,000 students. Its modern campus is located on the coast, just six kilometers from the city center.
Located on the south-eastern coast of Andalucía, Almería is a medium-sized city of about 200,000 residents. The city lies at the foot of a mountain range and is overlooked by a Moorish fortress called the Alcazaba. Almería has a busy port, an old town, and a bustling boardwalk (paseo marítimo). It is also the capital of the Almería province, which receives the most sunshine and least rainfall in all of Europe. The province has several beautiful beaches, natural parks, and interesting villages to visit.
