In 2004—for the first time—the European Commission awarded the ECTS Label for the correct use of the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). Eleven of the 91 European higher education institutions that applied for the label were successful in the first round. TU Graz was the only Austrian higher education institution awarded the ECTS Label.
As an important hub of the international technical and natural-scienctific research and education network, the university contributes to the positive development of society and the environment.

Computer Labs
There are four computer labs open to students. During the semester, computer labs are open Monday through Friday, 8 am to 9:30 pm. The labs are open during the holidays, but hours will vary from lab to lab.
Language Requirements & Language Courses
Students should have taken at least one year of German before applying.
Pre-Session German Language
Three weeks of intensive language pre-session prior to the start of each semester for a reduced fee through Treffpunkt Sprachen.
Intermediate German Language during the Semester
Two hours per week included in ISEP benefits. Additional courses available on a fee-paid basis through Treffpunkt Sprachen.

Orientation
- The semester starts with a Welcome Day for international students where students register at the university and get a wealth of useful information. Welcome Day includes a campus tour and a tour of the main library.
- Students have appointments with their academic coordinators to discuss which courses to take. Students also have a meeting at the university sports institute (USI) where they can register for sports courses.
- A student mentor is provided to help ISEP students settle in.
- A Welcome Party and a guided tour of Graz are offered by the Student Union.
- The Vice Rector of Academics usually welcomes students personally at a reception. In addition, there is usually a reception for all international students with the mayor of Graz.
Housing and Meals
ISEP students usually live in single rooms in WIST student dorms about 5 to 20 minutes' journey from the university by public transport or bicycle. Rooms are furnished and have internet connections. For more information, visit the WIST Web site.
ISEP students receive a stipend for meals. The average cost of a meal (plus beverage) in the student cafeteria is between 2.8 and 4.5 Euros. Student cafeterias can be found in several places.
Study Facilities
The main library offers Lesesäle (reading rooms), which are open Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. In addition, institutes often have specific rooms that students can use for studying. Zeichensäle (drawing rooms) are special facilities at TU Graz; they are administered by students for use by students of certain fields of study.
Sport
The Sports Institute of the Graz universities offers inexpensive courses for students. Semester fees range from 6 to 32 Euro per course.
Austrian Student Union
The Referat für Internationales (International Relations Section) of the Österreichische Hochschülerschaft (Austrian Student Union), or ÖH for short, helps incoming exchange students from other countries. Social events organized through the Student Union include a Welcome Party, weekly pub meetings, and a guided tour of Graz. Opportunities to participate in trips to Vienna and throughout Austria are also offered. One of the most popular is the trip to the vineyards in the south of Austria.

Graz, the 2003 European Cultural Capital, is situated in southeast Austria in the heart of Styria and at the focal point of southeastern Europe.
