Founded in 1911 as a state normal school for teacher training, MTSU is now the oldest and largest public university in Middle Tennessee. The University has 137 permanent buildings (4.1 million square feet of space) on 504 acres and over 23,000 students are enrolled at MTSU.

- The MTSU student body is one of the most diverse in the state- 54% female, 13% minority, and incorporating students from over 90 countries

Residential Life
- ISEP students will be housed on campus in a residence hall with a shared room, communal bathrooms, and kitchen area.
- Cafeterias are conveniently located around campus and ISEP students will receive a meal plan in addition to campus dollars for purchasing meals in designated on campus locations.
- A free shuttle bus gives students convenient transportation to all areas of campus.
Sports and Activities
- Over 140 student organizations are available to international students.
- The Campus Recreation Center keeps all students active and fit.
- Excursions to different parts of the country, and sometimes other countries, which are available to all international students.
- A wide variety of intramural sports including soccer, flag football, racquetball, volleyball and basketball.
- Classes in yoga, dance, and aerobics
- Facilities include 6 basketball/volleyball courts, 6 racquetball courts, an indoor track, an aerobic room, free weights and machines, an indoor swimming pool with water slide and diving board, outdoor swimming pool and sun deck with sand volleyball courts, indoor and outdoor juice bars, a rock-climbing wall, and a challenge course with Alpine climbing tower.

Murfreesboro:
- The town of Murfreesboro has a population of over 100,000 people
- The MTSU campus is just a few blocks from historic downtown where one can see the beautiful Neoclassical, Italianate and Victorian homes.
- The town square is filled with specialty shops and restaurants.
- The Greenway System is a scenic trail spanning the city that allows walking, bicycling, in-line skating and jogging. There are two canoe access points and four fishing piers. Ten different parks around the city offer other opportunities for sports and leisure.
- Murfreesboro is just a few hours drive from the Great Smoky Mountains, one of the country's most beautiful national parks
Nashville:
- Murfreesboro is just 25 miles from Nashville, the “home of country music.”
- Museums, shopping, and great restaurants just a short drive from Murfreesboro.
- See the Grand Ole Opry live, the best country music performance hall in the world.
- Nashville has a thriving art scene including a symphony/orchestra, a ballet, and many museums. It is also known as "The Athens of the South" for its replica of the Parthenon in Centennial Park.
