Program Snapshot

Located in the Normandy region not far from the D-Day beaches and the English Channel, the Université de Caen offers courses for a full immersion experience or French language and culture courses for international students at the Département de Formations en Langues. Students studying in Caen for a full-year with a high level of French have the opportunity to teach English in local middle or high schools.

NEW! COMING SUMMER 2016, Uni-Caen will now offer a 3 week Summer Intensive Language and Culture Program. Students can choose between 5 program options including: Culture and Heritage, World War II History, French Cinema, Equestrian Normandy, and Business Management! Applications will be open mid January. The deadline to apply is April 15, 2016. More information can be found HERE.


Location
A growing city with a population of 200,000, Caen is famed for its two Roman abbeys and its 11th-century castle which houses a museum. Normandy's beaches and monuments make it an enjoyable area to visit. Paris is about two hours away by train.

Programs

Option 1: ISEP-Exchange: Full Year or semester enrollment in university courses

Humanities: ancient studies, classics, education, French literature, linguistics, medieval archaeology, modern letters, Norman studies, theater & cinema studies

Business and management: business & public administration, economics

Université de Caen offers courses in French language, civilization, literature and teaching methodology at no additional cost. This program is available on a full-year or semester basis. Students should specify on their application that they wish to be placed in the Département Formations en langues courses.

Academic Notes
Universite de Caen is most appropriate for students who want to study French language and culture courses.

Students typically spend 20 hours in class per week. A term runs for 13 weeks.

TRANSCRIPT DETAILS

Transcripts are sent to ISEP in February and June and then immediately released to the student's home institution if there are no outstanding financial obligations.

Language Notes

Option 1: ISEP Exchange: Full Year enrollment in university courses

Language Recommendation: Level B1/B2: Typically 4-5 semesters of university level French OR 3+ consecutive years of French language study.
Language Notes: French language courses are offered in addition to regular classes during the semester for all levels. Contact hours per week: 3.

Option 2: ISEP-Exchange- Full Year or Semester enrollment in the Département Formations en Langues

Lanaguage Requirements: A minimum of 0-2 semesters of university-level French or the equivalent must be completed prior to the program.



Special ISEP Application Instructions

All students studying in France must purchase French health insurance (la Sécu) upon arrival for approximately 215 euros in addition to purchasing ISEP Health Insurance prior to departure.

Housing and Meals
ISEP students live in residence halls on campus, in single-occupancy rooms and receive a stipend for meals. No married student housing is available.

ESTIMATED PERSONAL EXPENSES

You are responsible for all of your personal expenses including: optional fees (e.g. computer, language, science lab fees), books, local transportation, entertainment, etc. The amount below is provided as a guide; the actual amount needed will vary depending on courses and personal habits. Your personal expenses per month, including books, are estimated at $200.

Orientation
The Service Relations Internationales and the ISEP Coordinator will welcome students to the University upon arrival. Staff will assist students with registration and a choice of courses. Students will visit the campus and will be designated a professor/advisor for academic assistance.
