Academic Notes
Of particular interest to ISEP participants are classes in the School of Business, offering the potential for internships with American companies, and the School of Technology, specifically computer information science, computer aided drafting and design, and criminal justice or law enforcement programs, which have been recognized statewide. The Department of Communications offers the opportunity to work with modern equipment in television, radio, or newspaper. In the School of Education and Psychology, students gain experience with the U.S. educational system and can also take advantage of health and wellness courses.
Special Academic Conditions
Nursing and education courses may be restricted, particularly third- and fourth-year (upper-division) courses. Some classes require special pre-requisites. Certain art and lab courses require additional fees (not included in ISEP benefits).
Language Notes
A minimum official or institutional TOEFL score of 520 (190 CBT) is required for regular courses and a 420 (110 CBT; 36 iBT) for the ESL program. Students with a score of 420-520 may study ESL full-time in IEP courses for one semester and may enroll in regular MSSU courses the second semester.

Housing and Meals
students are housed in double-occupancy residence hall rooms on campus and receive a cafeteria plan for 20 meals per week.
Profile
Missouri Southern State University (MSSU) is a state-supported, comprehensive university with an emphasis on quality education. Since 1990, Missouri Southern State University has pursued an international approach to undergraduate education. Missouri Southern has an enrollment of approximately 5,600. About 10 percent of students reside on campus.
The university sits on the former site of the 230-acre Mission Hills dairy farm. On-campus buildings include facilities for classes, concerts, theatrical productions, and athletic events. The university also offers library resources, television broadcasting studios, a 24-hour radio station, and a weekly student newspaper. Other facilities include an international resource center and modern language laboratory and a Learning Center offering peer tutoring. Missouri Southern also houses a regional crime lab and is a national training site for AutoCAD software.
Location
Missouri Southern State University is located in Joplin, Missouri. Joplin is situated in the southwest corner of Missouri, on the Ozark Plateau near the state lines of Arkansas, Kansas, and Oklahoma, and is the transportation and commercial center for the region. The area enjoys relatively mild winters and beautiful springs, so both indoor and outdoor recreational activities are available. A large shopping mall, a multi-screen movie theatre and dozens of restaurants are located within one mile of campus.
