Profile
VU University Amsterdam is a leading European research university, established in 1880 by the statesman and theologian Abraham Kuyper, the first Dutch university free of state and church interference. That heritage fuels our drive to excel and our closeness to the society in which we are rooted. We seek quality in education through structure, personal scale and ample scope for personal ambition and development. Some 20,000 students and 2,000 academic staff work closely together in pursuit of new knowledge, with scientific research as a key part of the educational process. Our students are challenged to ask critical questions, tackle problems and place what they are learning in a wider philosophical, ethical and social context. Twelve faculties share a single campus and cover a wide spectrum of arts, sciences and medicine. We have always encouraged scholars and students to look beyond the boundaries of their own fields. VU University Amsterdam: internationally oriented, many multidisciplinary programmes based on outstanding research.

Location
VU University Amsterdam is located in the southwestern part of Amsterdam. Amsterdam is a unique city in having all the benefits of big-city life, but still a compact city. All faculties share a single campus.
