Developing Communications and Social Networks
Most employers seek candidates with strong communication skills and global awareness. Take advantage of your role as an ISEP Ambassador to demonstrate that you have both. No matter which form of media you prefer, you can draw on your intercultural experiences both abroad and at home to build a strong portfolio that illustrates the important work you’ve done on behalf of ISEP and study abroad.
Tips to Get Started
- Write for your campus newspaper. This could be a single article publicizing your ISEP advocacy efforts or perhaps a monthly interview with either international students on your campus or current ISEP students overseas. Submit a copy of the article with your ISEP Ambassador log for possible publication in other ISEP materials.
- Be an ISEP Photographer. ISEP always appreciates clear, high-resolution, interesting photographs for our print publications and website. Share your best student and campus photos highlighting your activities as an Ambassador. Send your photos to info@isep.org.
- Submit a video. A short video can convey a powerful message – consider all your creative possibilities. Upload your video on YouTube and send the link to info@isep.org.
- Participate in Facebook. The ISEP Facebook Group is a great network through which to share your study abroad stories, swap ideas as Ambassadors, and help answer questions from prospective students around the world. You can volunteer as an administrator for the ISEP Facebook Group and join ISEP-Central in monitoring posts on the message board. If interested, please contact info@isep.org.
- Create an ISEP Facebook group for your campus. Start your own university-specific ISEP Facebook group to connect with ISEP alumni, prospective students, and incoming international students.

“I received emails via Facebook as well as my college address from students inquiring about the University of Malta. I answered their questions in a timely manner and they responded with enthusiasm. Also, I published an article in the student newspaper about my experiences abroad to encourage other students to do so through the ISEP program. I included my contact information as well as the information of our study abroad office.”

“Facebook has proved to be a great resource to interact with the students; I can organize events, answer questions, prompt questions, and ‘meet’ students who are in various stages of the study abroad process. I even encouraged some international students to get on Facebook before arriving so they wouldn’t be so bewildered by it when they arrived.”
Jessica Scarborough — ISEP Ambassador from Maryville College, USA
