Introduction:
ISEP Central and our colleagues in Austria welcome you to participate in the Austrian Regional Orientation Tour immediately following the ISEP 2012 Symposium (April 17-20, 2012).
We start the Regional Orientation Tour with a Welcome Dinner on Tuesday evening in Graz, and continue with information sessions at the Karl-Franzens-University of Graz and Graz University of Technology on Wednesday before departing for Linz in the afternoon. We will visit the Johannes Kepler University of Linz on Thursday and take a walking tour of the town before boarding a train for Salzburg. On Friday, our Austrian Regional Orientation Tour concludes with a visit to the Paris-Lodron-University of Salzburg and a guided tour of this historic city. All long-distance transportation within Austria, most meals, all university programs and guided city tours are included in the program cost ($300). Participants will make their own hotel reservations and pay for accommodation themselves.
The four Austrian member universities within the ISEP Network provide a perfect opportunity for German- as well as English-speaking students to enjoy an academic stay in the heart of Europe. Chances for exchange placements in Austria are generally very good. The Regional Orientation Tour will give ISEP coordinators insight into the Austrian university system, its ISEP member institutions, university facilities, etc. You will be able to visit each campus and host city and get a feel for Austrian culture and Austrian people. Meet the local ISEP coordinators, university faculty members, administrators and students and learn about the academic programs available. Participating in the Regional Orientation Tour will make it easier for you to advise students about ISEP Exchange options at our four Austrian member universities.
General Information:Austria is a predominantly mountainous country located in Central Europe with a moderate continental climate. In spring, the weather is usually very pleasant.
As Austria borders eight other European countries (Italy, Switzerland, the Principality of Liechtenstein, Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Slovenia), it is a convenient for participants to extend their stay in neighboring countries.
Participants of the Symposium and Regional Orientation Tour may want to fly into Munich International Airport and take the train to Graz. Train connections are very good. There are direct trains from Munich to Graz and from Salzburg to Munich every day.
