The following is a list of Anticipated Openings in the U.S. for the upcoming September application round for Spring 2010 placements. The institutions are sorted into seven categories based on the chance of placement at that institution. Criteria for the categories include: actual amount of space at the institution, estimated number of outgoing U.S. students, and the typical number of international students that request that institution. Please note that there may be more or fewer actual openings once the applications have been submitted.
The initial rounds of placement focus only on the top three choices, so students should include at least one site among their top three choices that has an Excellent, Very Good, Good or Fair chance of placement. Please do not apply for sites listed as “Closed”.
Institutions marked as Restricted are usually in high demand and have limited openings. Students may apply to only ONE Restricted site and it must be listed as the first choice on their application. Students must their application to ISEP by the priority deadline of September 1st in order to be considered for a restricted site.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Students should only apply to restricted sites that are currently open for applications.
The following sites are restricted because of the high number of international students that request them compared with the limited number of available openings.
California State University, East Bay (California)
Chapman University (California)
San Diego State University (California)
San José State University (California)
University of Denver (Colorado)
University of the Pacific (California)
Western Connecticut State University (Connecticut)
Please note that the chance of placement for universities in the Georgia, North Carolina or Missouri Consortium is referring to the consortium as a whole, not to individual institutions within the consortium. Although students may designate interest in a particular institution on their application, the final decision regarding where the student is ultimately placed is made by the Consortium, guided but not determined by the recommendation of ISEP.
Example: Student may list NC-Asheville on their Host Site Request List but the consortium may decide to place the student at another institution within the consortium (such as NC-Appalachian) based on space availability. Students should expect to be flexible.
