Academic Notes
The following fields are especially recommended for ISEP participants: architecture, business administration, education and law, environmental chemistry, international business, marketing, Mexican folklore, Spanish as a second language, and tourism and hotel management (Mexican food specialties lab). An Art and Mexican History course is offered each term for ISEP participants (included in ISEP benefits). Some courses are available in English, please see the links above.
Language Notes
A minimum of 4 semesters of university-level Spanish or the equivalent must be completed prior to program. Students are required to have intermediate-level Spanish; students are expected to know basic grammar and vocabulary and to understand written and spoken Spanish.
Intensive Spanish language courses are offered in addition to regular classes during the Academic Year and Semester at Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced levels. Contact hours per course per week: 3.
A pre-session, intensive Spanish language course (group or individual lessons) can be arranged for an additional fee. Contact hours per course per week: 20.
Group or individual tutoring may be arranged for an additional fee.

Non-native English speakers may be required to prove English proficiency. Students may take an institutional TOEFL on arrival to prove this, normally a minimum of a 500 pBT score is required.
Note: The host institution ultimately determines your proficiency level and course eligibility.
Program Dates
Academic year: September to May; Semester 1: September to December; Semester 2: January to April. Summer session (May to August) is considered a full semester of study.
Housing and Meals
Students either live with host families, who provide housing and meals, or students live in student apartments and receive a meal stipend. The university is willing to provide a stipend for off campus housing for ISEP students traveling with spouses.
Student Activities
Students can get immersed in local culture by visiting museums, markets and other places of interest within the included Spanish class. A trip to Garcia Caves and Saltillo's Desert museum is included in the ISEP benefits. One or two weekend trips to colonial towns or archeological sites are offered each term.
Students may participate in activities offered by the cultural division. Foreign students can participate in dance, Mexican folklore, salsa or hip hop, play theatre, sing, play guitar, bass or drums - if desired, foreign students can even get credit and grades for those activities.
The International Affairs Department maintains contact with over 60 local companies and can help to get a work placement while studying in Monterrey.

Founded in 1951 as the Instituto Modelo de Enseñaza, it became Universidad Regiomontana in 1969 by decree of the Government of the State of Nuevo León, Mexico.Universidad Regiomontana is a private institution that offers studies at the undergraduate, graduate, and high school levels. Through teaching and research, Regiomontana prepares professionals to contribute to the advancement and welfare of the community. The university is dedicated to educating students in an atmosphere of freedom and humanism, and providing students hands-on experience in their field of study.
Facilities include 20 academic buildings with 304 classrooms and laboratories for photography, film, radio, television, music, food, and the sciences. There are computer laboratories open to students in all of the main university buildings. Additionally students can participate in workshops for credit in jazz, folk dancing, flamenco, salsa, hip-hop, guitar, piano, speech, theater, painting, and music, including three bands and a choir. The university also sponsors a variety of cultural events such as concerts, drama, movies, art exhibits and seminars. Total enrollment: 5000. UR is a small institution and provides students the advantages of easy integration, friendly environment and a personable atmosphere.

Location
Monterrey, the capital of the state of Nuevo León, is located in northern Mexico; it is a two hour drive to the U.S. border. Monterrey is Mexico's third-largest city and one of its most important industrial, economic, and educational centers. All University buildings are located in the city center of Monterrey, with easy access to most amenities. They are located 5 minutes from the Macroplaza and the old town of Barrio Antiguo, where students can find cafes, restaurant, bars, cultural events, museums, and a vibrant nightlife. It is also a favorite student hangout on weekends.
