Glossary of ISEP Terminology and Codes
| General ISEP Terminology | |

| ISEP Member | An institution that participates in both sending and receiving students on ISEP-Exchange and sending students on ISEP-Direct. |
| ISEP Affiliate | An institution that participates in sending students on ISEP-Direct programs. |
| US Student | Any student whose home university is located in the USA. |
| International Student | Any student whose home university is located outside the USA. |
| ISEP-Exchange | A one-for-one reciprocal exchange between ISEP members. Students pay all fees(tuition, housing and meals) to their home university and a modest application/placement fee to ISEP. |
| ISEP-Direct | A study abroad option for students to go abroad to an ISEP member university. An incoming student is not received in return at the home/sending institution. Students pay a $60 application fee, a $500 deposit, and the program cost directly to ISEP. |
| ISEP Benefits | Services provided to incoming student by host institution including access to courses, housing and meals, orientation. |
| Site | Refers to the member institution. For example, host site means the same as host university. |
| Directory | The listing of all ISEP members and a description of their institution and ISEP benefits. |
| International-to-International | International Members that participate in exchanges with other international members (ie. France and Mexico). This type of exchange was formerly called "multilateral" at ISEP. |
| Council of Advisors | Advisory group to the President/Executive Director and the Board of Directors on matters related to ISEP program development and implementation and recommends criteria for ISEP membership. Is elected by the ISEP membership and meets at least once annually. |
| ISEP Ambassador | A returned ISEP student who volunteers on their home campus. These students are nominated by coordinators and ISEP staff and invited to participate each July. |

| Agreement and Terms of Participation | Document signed by all member institutions that defines obligations and benefits. |
| HIPC | Host Institution Placement Confirmation: sent by ISEP with application to host institution |
| PPAF | Participant Placement Acceptance Form: Student "contract" with ISEP, home and host institution; forwarded to student upon confirmation; to be returned to ISEP by designated date (includes starred [*] items below) |
| Conditions of Placement Form* | List of Conditions of Placement which all ISEP students must abide by. |
| Special Conditions of Placement Form* | Description of conditions the student must meet with their ISEP placement, or important details the student must know before they accept their placement. |
| Transcript Responsibility form* | Description of Transcript procedure and student's responsibilities in obtaining their transcript from ISEP |
| Self-Assessment Medical Form* | Student disclosure form regarding any pre-existing medical conditions |
| IIS | Institutional Information Sheet: Contact and travel information; details relating to benefits. Completed by institution, approved by ISEP and provided to students upon confirmation as part of student contract with ISEP and host institution - participant accepts placement on terms defined in IIS. |
| ISEP Student Handbook | Predeparture document sent to all ISEP participants. Also available online in Students-Placed. |
| Online Country Handbook | Specific information about the host country provided to ISEP students |
| Enrollment Verification Form | List of course for which student has registered at host institution; to be completed by participant after registration and returned to home institution |
| Host Institution Exit Form | List of courses for which student expects to receive grades; to be completed before departure from host institution and signed by host coordinator |

| Nomination | Decision by home institution to select and nominate student for ISEP program; upon receipt of application, student is entered in ISEP database | |
| Placement | ISEP Central sends application to potential host institution and enters designated host in database | P |
| Confirmation | Host institution confirms that they accept the student's placement and returns HIPC to ISEP | C |
