The World Is Not Yet Flat

Fiber optic cables and high speed internet can be powerful enablers. They can also be tools that allow new forms of communication, while opening up new forms of collaborative activities. But they do not guarantee outcomes. The way in which human attitudes, culture and disposition interact in the end determine both the quantity and quality of results. Thursday evening, November 20, at the Carnegie Institution of Washington.

Internationalization: Commitment Beyond Rhetoric, Impact Beyond Numbers

A number of researchers have developed extensive criteria for evaluating international initiatives and commitment, but for many current practitioners these models have been lost in the day-to- day realities of working in the field. Panelists will attempt to close the gap between theory and practice by reviewing current research models on institutional commitment to internationalization as well as by providing specific examples of how commitment might be measured and utilized. In recognition of growing and changing demands for international education, the ISEP the Board of Directors endorsed a new Strategic Plan with new directions that include closer cooperation with member institutions to support campus internationalization, study abroad and exchange.  This joint address by the ISEP Board Chairman and President will outline these and other new directions for the organization and engage in a dialogue with conference participants regarding the future of the organization. Friday, November 21, during lunch.

U.S. Foreign Policy and International Education in the New Administration

The ISEP Conference occurs two weeks after the U.S. Presidential election. What are some of the foreign policy challenges and choices facing the next U.S. administration and what impact may there be on international education? Speaker to be confirmed. Friday afternoon, November 21.
