The ISEP Network Connects You to the World
ISEP Biennial Conference 2008
Call for Session Proposals
One Door, Many Windows: The ISEP Network Connects You to the World
ISEP seeks your suggestions and proposals for conference sessions and roundtables!
The goal of this year's conference is to highlight the resources for campus internationalization available to your institution through its membership in ISEP's global academic network.
We invite you to submit a proposal for one of twelve 75-minute panel sessions or roundtables that will be of interest to:
- ISEP coordinators and study abroad advisors from all our member institutions.
- Institutional leaders/administrators involved with international education.
- Faculty interested in sending students abroad and receiving students from other countries.
Here are some ideas to inspire your thinking about sessions you might propose:
- What is happening in higher education in your region, and how do you see it affecting international education?
- How does your connection to a consortium like ISEP help your institution carry out its own strategic plan for internationalization?
- How can the ISEP network help institutions meet the U.S. Lincoln Commission's goal of providing access to non-traditional destinations and increasing participation in study abroad programs by underrepresented groups?
- What changes do you see in students' expectations, and how can the variety of ISEP's programs help you meet those expectations?
- How do you prepare students to meet the challenges of an immersion experience?
- How do the resources of the ISEP network support students and member institutions in crisis situations?
- How do you help returning students integrate their experience abroad into their future careers both on campus and after graduation?
- How does the presence of ISEP exchange students from other countries and the experience of returning students help internationalize the campus for those students who do not go abroad?
- How can cooperation among faculty at ISEP member institutions facilitate the integration of study abroad into home institution degree programs in fields such as business, communication, engineering, and science?
- What opportunities for off-campus experiences (internships, service learning, volunteer activities, etc.) does your institution offer to international students? What lessons have you learned about the benefits and challenges of such programs?
- How might new technology-mediated social environments (e.g. social networking media Web 2.0 including virtual worlds such as Second Life and simulations, gaming, etc.) enhance international education?
These are just suggestions of possible session/roundtable topics. ISEP conference sessions have always been developed in response to the interests and needs of ISEP members and draw strongly upon their experience.
We encourage you to respond with your own ideas and to forward this call for proposals to others on your campus who may be interested in presenting and also attending the conference.
Please submit your session or roundtable proposals to Nana Rinehart using the appropriate session and roundtable proposal forms. You may also email topic suggestions to her without submitting a formal proposal.
Proposals and suggestions are due by May 15, 2008. Members of ISEP’s Conference Planning Committee will contact submitters by late June regarding their suggestions. Complete session information will be due to the ISEP Central Office by July 30, 2008.
We look forward to hearing your thoughts and to receiving ideas and proposals that will enhance understanding of the ISEP network's potential to meet members' needs while expanding their reach.
