ISEP Strategic Plan 2007 – 2012


Strategic Goal I: ISEP in international education: Emphasize ISEP’s leadership in international cooperation.

1.1 Promote the value of the ISEP consortium as an effective avenue for international cooperation among higher education institutions.
1.2 Work in cooperation with member institutions to create and implement a model for integrating ISEP into institutional strategic plans.
1.3 Develop and implement specialized services in support of the internationalization of member institutions.
1.4 Raise visibility for academic and cross-cultural learning outcomes achieved by the independent and self-reliant students, faculty, and alumni who participate in ISEP programs.

Strategic Goal II: The ISEP Membership: Build and sustain an active worldwide membership committed to ISEP’s vision, mission, values and goals.

2.1 Manage and maintain the size of the U.S. membership to increase participation and maximize effectiveness for the organization.
2.2 Develop and sustain worldwide regional balance.
2.3 Expand ISEP membership to include China, India, Turkey and the Middle East.
2.4 Expand member participation in International-to-International exchanges to meet regional demands.
2.5 Monitor and ensure compliance with and adherence to ISEP standards of membership, participation and good practice in internationalization.
2.6 Host ISEP conferences and coordinator workshops.

Strategic Goal III: ISEP programs and participants: Provide increased access to affordable programs and diverse options for worldwide learning experiences.

3.1 Build and sustain a well-balanced portfolio of study opportunities.
3.2 Promote high quality, integrated and in-depth student learning experiences.
3.3 Establish annual targets for participation in U.S.-International exchanges.
3.4 Establish annual targets for participation in ISEP-Direct programs.
3.5 Establish annual targets for participation in International-to-International exchanges.
3.6 Increase participation of under-represented student populations at ISEP member institutions for international study.
3.7 Strengthen and maintain strong support services to students.
3.8Develop means of supporting internationalization of campus faculty.

Strategic Goal IV: Implement core management systems and develop new resources that ensure a financially sound and viable organization.

4.1 Marketing, Communications and Advocacy
    4.1.1 Enhance strategic marketing of ISEP programs and services.
    4.1.2 Develop and implement annual marketing plan.

4.2 Development
    4.2.1 Submit appropriate grant proposals annually to government agencies, corporations, private or corporate foundations.
    4.2.2 Utilize conferences and other events to generate sponsor revenue and to raise ISEP’s visibility.

4.3 Finance
    4.3.1 Develop and sustain investment and budget strategies to support an operational reserve equal to six months of operating expenses.
    4.3.2 Create and build a reserve fund for scholarships and organizational development.

4.4 Leadership
    4.4.1 Ensure an internationally diverse and experienced governing Board of Directors.
    4.4.2 Ensure Board leadership in strategic planning, fiscal and legal oversight.
    4.4.3 Ensure an internationally diverse and experienced membership on the Council of Advisors to support and strengthen programs, membership and services.

4.5 ISEP Management Systems
    4.5.1 Ensure an experienced professional staff.
    4.5.2 Continue to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of all aspects of program development and administration.
    4.5.3 Strengthen and maintain strong communication links with ISEP members through staff interaction, publications and the ISEP website.
    4.5.4 Expand use of technology to improve operational efficiency, disseminate information and strengthen member services.
    4.5.5 Review emergency preparedness annually and revise as needed.
