PROGRAM TYPE

ISEP-Direct Summer for all ISEP member students

COURSES

Students attend courses on weekdays (4 hours per day / 100 hours total). Courses include Portuguese language; History, and Brazilian Culture; and Introduction to Brazilian and Portuguese Literature.

LANGUAGE NOTES

FAAP offers two course options depending on the student’s language knowledge:

Intensive Portuguese Courses I and II for English Speakers: Students whose native or second language is English (and have no knowledge of Spanish) will be enrolled in this introductory language course. Course descriptions.

Intensive Portuguese Course I and II for Spanish Speakers: This course is designed for students (a) who are fluent in Spanish, either native or as a second language (intermediate or above), or (b) who have taken four semesters of university-level Portuguese language courses and be in the A2 level (according to the European Framework of Reference). This course draws students’ attention to forms that differ from Spanish: taking advantage of the similarities, stressing the differences, and focusing on those features of Portuguese which are most difficult for Spanish speakers. Course description.

Normally, students applying to any course will be required to schedule an online interview with the language coordinator at FAAP to determine their language level. Once in Brazil, students will take a placement test.

Note: The host institution ultimately determines proficiency level and course eligibility.
